At Tooth Suite Family Dentistry, we address oral health at every stage of life, and we welcome patients of all ages. We are proud to offer children’s dentistry in Lloydminster, with services tailored to kids and their specific needs, from birth all the way to adolescence.
Pediatric dentists fulfill many important functions pertaining to a child’s overall oral health and hygiene. They place particular emphasis on the proper maintenance and care of baby teeth, which are instrumental in facilitating good chewing habits and proper speech production and also hold space for permanent teeth. Pediatric dentists are specially trained to make the dental clinic a friendly, happy, and welcoming place for children.
Pediatric dentistry (which used to be called pedodontics or paedodontics) is a special type of dentistry that takes care of children’s teeth, from babies through the teenage years. The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) recognizes pediatric dentistry as a specialty and therefore requires dentists to undertake two or three years of additional training after completing a general dentistry degree. After finishing this special training, pediatric dentists receive a special diploma from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). Oral treatment for children with exceptional needs, such as those with autism, various forms of developmental disabilities, or cerebral palsy, is a specialty of some pediatric dentists (pedodontists).
One of the most important parts of children’s dentistry is understanding child psychology. Pediatric dentists are trained to create a friendly, fun, and welcoming space so that children feel comfortable visiting. They avoid scary words like “drill,” “needle,” or “injection.” This is important because fear of the dentist often starts in childhood and can last into adulthood. That’s why it’s so helpful for kids to have positive dental experiences and find a trusted dentist near you early on.
Pediatric dentists do many important jobs to help keep children’s mouths healthy and teach them good habits for taking care of their teeth. In order to promote healthy chewing habits and appropriate speech output, they focus special attention on the upkeep and care of deciduous (baby) teeth, which also provide room for permanent teeth. To support your child’s oral health, explore children’s dentistry near you for specialized, age-appropriate care.
Other Important Things Pediatric Dentists Do:
As parents ourselves, we understand the unique needs and concerns that children have when it comes to dental visits. We believe that visits to the dentist near you should be an enjoyable experience, and we do our best to create a friendly and comfortable environment. By encouraging proper dental care and techniques in a warm and caring environment, our younger patients have an enjoyable experience at the clinic and are eager to continue future dental visits.
At Tooth Suite Family Dentistry, we like to introduce our youngest patients to our practice with a gentle cleaning and checkup, also known as a “Happy Visit.” Happy Visits are free for any kids less than two. This is an excellent way to introduce your child to our dental clinic while encouraging and supporting early dental care and maintenance. We are proud to provide trusted children’s dentistry in Lloydminster to help every child build a healthy foundation for lifelong oral health.
