Teeth Whitening

We Are Your Choice for Lloydminster Restorative Teeth Whitening!

We know your smile is important to you. It is one of the first things people notice when they meet you. A whiter, brighter, smile can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression. Discoloured teeth can affect our self-esteem and overall confidence. Unfortunately, things we love like red wine, cola, coffee, tea, and smoking can all contribute to stained and discoloured teeth. Other causes include taking antibiotics as a child, trauma, poor dental hygiene, lifestyle, and general aging. We want to help you feel confident about your smile. Tooth Suite is pleased to offer teeth whitening services to help you achieve the whiter, brighter smile of your dreams!

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, and there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

It is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, cola, or wine.

Reasons for teeth whitening:

  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
  • Normal wear of the outer tooth layer
  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
  • Yellow, brown stained teeth

Types of Teeth Whitening:

Take Home Teeth Whitening

Take-Home teeth whitening kits are a safe, fast, and effective way to professionally remove stains and discolouration from your teeth while in the comfort of your home. It usually requires two visits; at the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear, plastic trays. At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with a special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes, or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

This procedure is carried out by your dentist and typically takes around 60 minutes. Your dentist will cover up the lips and gums, leaving only the teeth exposed. Hydrogen peroxide whitening gel will then be applied to the teeth. The gel is exposed to special LED light and works to break the discoloration. The gel is left on for 15 minutes, and the procedure is repeated three to four times.

Hydrogen peroxide works by breaking apart carbon bonds that create stains. The LED light used is adjustable during the procedure to minimize sensitivity and produce the degree of whitening required. Any discomfort experienced after the procedure dissipates after a while.
