IV Sedation

Your Lloydminster Choice for IV Sedation Dentistry!

For situations where patients require a higher level of sedation than the oral medication or nitrous oxide can provide, an intravenous method of sedation is preferred. Tooth Suite is proud to offer IV sedation options to patients.

Please note IV sedation is only available for Oral Surgery patients seeing Dr. Prabhjot Singh.

What is IV Sedation?

IV Sedation is administered into your bloodstream through a carefully placed IV in the vein, which takes immediate effect. With this method, also known as monitored anesthesia care (MAC) or “twilight sleep,” your dentist can adjust your dosage from minimal (you’ll feel relaxed but able to talk) to deep (you probably won’t remember the procedure). This allows a patient to still be awake during the procedure, but feel no pain, while also allowing your dentist to be able to administer another drug to wake you up later on. The technique puts you into a sleep-like state, but you will not be unconscious during your procedure like you would with general anesthesia. Even the lengthiest procedures can be completed while you are under IV sedation and you will most likely have no memory of your experience despite being conscious.

Is IV Sedation Safe?

Sedation dentistry is considered to be very safe. At Tooth Suite, we ensure the safety of our Sedation Dentistry patients by using monitoring equipment during the procedure, which includes a pulse oximeter and oxygen equipment. Our Dentists are also required to have reversal medication agents on hand in the rare case of an adverse reaction to the sedatives. Patients undergoing sedation dentistry services are required to have a responsible party drive them to and from their appointment and remain with them until the effects of the sedation.
